Step by Step Guide to Create and Register Sequences

Since 01.01.2023, it is only possible to finalize documents in registered sequence, so it is mandatory to present the ATCUD code in all types of documents, as required by the Finance authorities.


1️⃣ Create a user in the tax portal to add in the InvoiceXpress configuration:

1) Access the "Portal das Finanças" (http://www.portaldasfinancas.gov.pt/at/html/index.html);

2) On this page, click on "Finanças";

4) Click on "Serviços";

5) Click on "Gestão de Utilizadores" in the "Autenticação de Contribuintes" column, and log in:

Here you must create a new user and choose a password.


Your user will be something like NIF/1 - the format is always NIF/number (depending on the number of users already created). Regardless of the name you give it, this is the data you should enter in InvoiceXpress.

The password must be between 8 and 14 characters.

On this user's permission list, you must choose 3 options:

✅ WFA;

✅ WSE;

✅ WDT

2️⃣ Next, you need to add this information to your account InvoiceXpress:


  1. Access the settings, in the upper right corner of the page;
  2. Communication with the State;
  3. Sequences/ATCUD. 
  4. Click on "Configure" and add the AT user credentials:

✅ The user configuration has been successfully completed and the connection with the AT is already active. What should I do next?

If the configuration was completed successfully, you can now proceed to the registration of a sequence.

Proceed to Step 3️⃣ - To create and register a new sequence.

⚠️ The user configuration failed and the connection with the AT remains inactive. What should I do?

The error indicates that InvoiceXpress requested validation of the data you added to the AT and some data was not validated. This can happen for several reasons:

  1. Some user data configured does not match the user registered on the Tax Portal, for example: NIF/user number or Password.
  2. Some of the mandatory options are missing in the permissions list. Please ensure that you selected WSE, WFA, and WDT.
  3. The user is suspended in the user management of the Tax Portal. If this is the case, activate the user.

How can I resolve this?

  • Double-check the configured data and confirm if the user created in the Tax Portal has the correct permissions.
  • You can choose a new password for the user in the Tax Portal and try to configure the connection with the AT again in your InvoiceXpress account.
  • As a last resort, create a new user in the Tax Portal and add the new data in the configuration of your InvoiceXpress account.

3️⃣ To create and register a new Sequence:

After the configuration has been successfully registered and the connection with the AT is active, you will be able to create and register sequences

  1. Click on Create New Sequence:

Choose a name for the new sequence and, if you want to use it now, activate the Use as your default sequence option. In the end, click on Save and Register.


The created sequence will have the Registered indication, which means it has been successfully registered and it will now be possible to create and finalize documents in the account.

I set up the user's credentials and the connection with the AT is active. I want to register a sequence that is already created in the account, but it is in inactive status. How do I proceed?


To register a sequence that has already been created in your account but is inactive, click on the sequence you want to register and then "Register Sequence":
